WOKE event goes virtual for a diverse night of storytelling, art and celebration

Debs and Beharry noticed a clear gap in our community – many BIPOC groups can’t find mentors to relate to. So, the pair worked to build WOKE events as a platform for racialized members of the community to share stories and find mentors in a safe space. 

After so many years of education, advocating and standing up for justice, this was a night of warmth and uplifting celebration of where the community is right now and where it's going.

Live at the Apollo: Cinema turned concert venue engages community with exclusive performance by local band, Excuse Me.

On Saturday March 6, Apollo Cinema in Kitchener transformed into a concert venue for event Live at the Apollo as Guelph alternative rock band Excuse Me. took the stage for an exclusive one hour performance, produced and broadcast live by Good Company Productions.

Jaguar Sun x Ahmri Vandeborne collaboration creates sensory dreamscape for live virtual show

Many may think that there is no common point of reference between music and arts, but the latest Live @ 44 collaborative show featuring musician Jaguar Sun and interdisciplinary artist Ahmri Vandeborne proved otherwise. 

In layering environmental factors such as light, colour, brightness or darkness, and mapping these factors to the sounds of the show, the art acted as a catalyst to trigger varying emotions and feelings within audience members. Much like Minielly’s music, Vandeborne’s artwork was layered, reflective and warm.

DIY Rock Group KAAJE!! Performs Debut Album “Things We Least Desire” Live at Virtual Release Show

On Friday, February 19, the 44 Gaukel came to life as local DIY rock ensemble KAAJE!! celebrated their debut album release,“ Things We Least Desire.” Ticket holders experienced an energetic show from home featuring heavy hitting lyrics, angsty violin solos, and an escape from reality for a little while.
